KADAPA: The Government should grant political reservations for Backward Classes in the State, State president of BC Ikya Sangharshana Samithi V.G.R. Naragoni said on Thursday. The BCs should be allotted 94 Assembly seats in proportion to their population, but only 49 MLAs were BCs, he said at a press conference here. Upper castes were usurping Assembly seats and denying due share to the BCs, he alleged. Eighty of the 94 sub-castes among the BCs had no representatives in the Assembly, he lamented. Fifty-two per cent of the BCs were socially, politically and economically backward, he said. Education and medicare was elusive to 85 per cent of the downtrodden and weaker sections, Mr. Naragoni stated. Successive Governments were ignoring the BCs, he alleged. BC Corporation director G. Narayana Yadav, samithi's State vice-president Khasim Khan, district president T. Baludu and women's wing president O. Sakunthalamma were present.
