MAKING A POINT: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and M. Venkataramana, MLA, in Tirupati on Thursday.
TIRUPATI: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy flew in here late in the evening on Thursday on a two-day visit. Immediately landing at the make-shift helipad near Alipiri he left for Tirumala for darshan of Lord Venkateswara. Dr. Reddy later commissioned the Rs.25-lakh `Sri Venkateswara FM Station' funded by the TTD. The station would initially cover 5 km radius and its reach would be later widened in the next phase. The TTD proposed to provide in the next phase a live audio coverage of the various `sevas' and spirituals programmes both inside and outside the temple complex.
Guest houses
The Chief Minister also laid stones for three TTD guest houses at Tirumala-- Panchajanya, Kausthubham and Nandakam to be constructed with Rs.53 crpres. Dr. Reddy, after attending a wedding reception in the night, would fly to Hyderabad on Friday morning after participating in a couple of official programmes. He would inaugurate junior college premises of the TTD at Tirupati and later lay the foundation for the TTD's Vishnu Nivas complex to be built at a cost of Rs.53 crores Later speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister lashed out at TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and its Rajya Sabha member M.V. Mysoora Reddy for their recent remarks against his two pet schemes-- Jalayagnam and the Science City proposed at Anantapur. The Chief Minister took serious exception to Mr. Naidu's remarks that he (YSR) lacked a clear view on the Jalayagnam, which was leading to controversies as in the case of the Palar river. The Chief Minister said that it was ridiculous that Mr. Naidu, who had never thought of constructing even a single irrigation project in the State during his long regime, should make such an irresponsible statement.
Science city
On the reported remarks of Mr. Mysoora Reddy that the hi-fi `Science City' would end up as yet another Wolkes Wagon case, the Chief Minister said that it was the typical case of an `Idle man's brain' and frustration caused due to political unemployment. On spiralling prices of essential commodities, he said that it was linked to the oil price hike in the international market. "We are however taking all possible steps to hold the price line with the powers in our own ambit, he asserted."
