On the road to safety

P. Anima

NEW DELHI: A road safety programme aimed at teaching children traffic rules ended in the Capital on Thursday. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit gave away awards to children who participated in the Mercedes-Benz Mobile Kids programme organised in partnership with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Traffic Police Department and the Department of Education.

The programme from Daimler Chrysler was implemented at five schools in Delhi and students of Class IV were given training in hazard anticipation and pro-social behaviour. The students were also taught to respect traffic rules and road safety. The programme aimed at creating safety awareness in an entertaining manner.

The winner of the inter-school road safety contest was awarded a "Mercedes-Benz experience" -- a day in a chauffer-driven Mercedes-Benz with family and friends. Over a thousand students took part in the programme that comprised various kinds of contests.
