Television series "Fists of Fury" begins on Monday



"FISTS OF FURY": National Geographic Channel showcases martial arts in a series beginning next week

NEW DELHI: Offering viewers a peek into the extraordinary world of martial arts is "Fists of Fury", a brand new series on National Geographic Channel premiering this coming Monday.

A one-stop shop for all martial arts enthusiasts, "Fists of Fury" offers an insight into the myth surrounding martial arts. The series looks at martial arts from every possible angle, revealing the reality behind the deadly arts using scientific breakthroughs and gripping footage.

Speaking about the series, Joy Bhattacharjya, senior vice-president-programming of National Geographic Channel India, says: "Our upcoming series promises to make our viewers rethink the abilities of the most lethal weapon in the world -- the human body. It is an action-packed look at some of the most ancient deadly arts, which brings to light the science behind the legends we have read about and seen in the movies. The series is sure to get every person with any interest in martial arts completely hooked."

"Fight Science", whose two parts will be aired on February 12 and 13, will allow engineers to exactly calculate the incredible physics and physiology that produce martial arts' devastating force.

On February 14, "Kick Fighters" will focus on a style that is a pastiche of Western boxing and Eastern martial arts, creating one of the most powerful and dangerous forms of fighting in the world. The episode is a mind-boggling look at the mental and physical effort and the sacrifices one needs to make to come out on top.

A remarkable story of Shi Yan Ming, the Shaolin monk who shocked the world by moving to New York City in 1992, will be shown in "Kung Fu Monk" on February 15. Ming is transforming an ancient Eastern tradition into a stunning Western sensation. "Kung Fu Killer", to be aired on February 16, will reveal the ten deadliest weapons of all times including iron claws, meteor hammers and deer antler blades. This countdown uncovers the dark secrets of their creation leading up to the unbelievable story of the ultimate Chinese killing machine.

From fiery workshops to ferocious fighting schools, "Samurai Sword" on February 17 probes the mysterious process behind the creation of the sword that many experts call the most effective in the world.

Other action-packed episodes include "Kung Fu Dragons of Wudang", "Behind the Blade", "Made in Hong Kong" and "The Martial Art of Deception".
