4 killed, 29 injured in accident
According to police, the accident occurred when the State Transport Corporation bus proceeding towards Chennai from Salem rammed into the vehicle laden with empty industrial gas cylinders near Ponniammanpattarai village junction. The driver had halted the vehicle to pick up 25 persons who were proceeding to Sriperumpudur for some contract work at an industrial unit. The deceased were identified as Subramani (25) and Sekar (33), both from Ponniammanpattari, Prema (35) of Manthangal and Selvi (42) of Sirunai village. Of the 29 injured, 13 were referred to Government General Hospital, Chennai, police said. Staff Reporter
Rs.24.85 lakh seized from air passenger
According to official sources, the passenger did not provide proper explanation for the source of the money. The denomination of the seized currency were of Rs.1000 and Rs.500. Preliminary enquiries by the IT Department officials revealed that the passenger appeared to be a "carrier" operating from Coimbatore. The name of the passenger was given as S. Muthukaruppan, who had come to Chennai and was on his way to purchase a property in Kancheepuram. Special Correspondent
Sri Lankan national arrested
Airport police said D. Cancious Nidarsan Joseph (26), who was studying in the UK, wanted to visit his parents in Sri Lanka before leaving for Canada. Mr. Joseph landed in Chennai and was about to board a flight to Sri Lanka. The immigration authorities conducted a check and found the Canadian visa was fake. He was then handed over to the airport police who arrested and remanded him to custody. On Monday last, Bhupindher Singh (27) from Patiala was handed over to the airport police by the immigration authorities after he was found carrying a fake Canadian visa. Bhupindher Singh was about to board a Lufthansa flight. The Airport police remanded him to custody. Staff Reporter

TNGEA general secretary R. Muthusundaram said in a statement here that the KVIB employees had been provided with DA which was 15 per cent lesser than that of the government employees. Bomb hurled at Sub-Inspector
According to police sources, he threw a bomb at Sub-Inspector Anbu Prakash while he was standing at Palayamkottai and subsequently attacked the official with deadly weapons. The official escaped unhurt, sources said.

Seven Sri Lankan refugees arrive
Official sources said that the refugees were from Jaffna. They were S. Subbuthayi (63), her son S. Aingarai Rooban (31), T. Mohana Lakshmanan (22), Y. Naresh (32), N. Navaneetham (27), K.
