BHUBANESWAR: As usual, February has brought cheers for the city's theatre connoisseurs, for three major annual theatre festivals are lined up in the capital's cultural calendar. Commencing on Ferbruary 12, city-based Manana Natya Sanstha is hosting its fourth annual drama festival coinciding with its 28th foundation day celebrations at Rabindra Mandap. The five-day festival is being supported by the National School of Drama (NSD), Central Sangeet Natak Akademi and Eastern Zonal Cultura Centre, Kolkata, informed Manana president Manoj Pattanayak. He, however, regretted that the State Government had not provided any kind of patronage to their efforts for promotion of theatre in the state.NSD director Devendra Raj Ankur will be in the city for the event that will showcase five plays and conclude on February 16, he said. The ninth national multi-lingual theatre festival, the most popular and only event of its kind event in the state, will kick off on February 18 at Rabindra Mandap. Being hosted by the three-decade-old Satabdira Kalakar, the five-day festival will showcase Oriya, Bengali, Santali, Koshali and Hindi plays, organisation founder-secretary and dramatist Dhira Mallick said. In the last leg of the festival month, city-based theatre body Pancham Veda would stage its third State-level annual theatre festival at Rabindra Mandap from Feb 23 and 27, host organisaton secretary Haren Sahoo said. Troupes from Padmapur, Rourkela, Bhubaneswar and Jatni would participate, he added.
