Nizamabad bandh near total

Staff Reporter

STANDSTILL: A street in Nizamabad wears a deserted look following the bandh on Thursday.

NIZAMABAD: The bandh observed in the town on Thursday in response to the call given by Sarva Samaj Committee protesting against the demolition of a compound wall of the Pochamma temple in Vinayaknagar by the Municipal Corporation authorities was near total.

Shops and business establishments and cinema theatres remained closed and schools declared a holiday. Banking operations were paralysed while the APSRTC suspended its services.

Dharnas, rasta rokos and burning of effigies marked the bandh.

The protestors went around the main streets forcing shopkeepers to down their shutters since the morning.

Besides the committee activists, the BJP and its affiliated organisations and some TDP and TRS leaders also took an active part in enforcing the bandh.

The BJP workers staged a rasta roko opposite the RTC bus depot.
