U.S. company to help upgrade health system in Rajasthan

Special Correspondent

Areas of cooperation include training doctors, nursing staff

JAIPUR: The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System of the U.S. has agreed to work for improvement of health care services in Rajasthan through research and training and upgrading of hospitals. The Health System has given its consent in principle to cooperate with the State Government in five major segments.

A seven-member delegation of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, headquartered in Great Neck, New York, met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje here to identify the areas of cooperation for strengthening medical services. Ms. Raje spoke to North Shore-LIJ Chief Executive Officer Michael Dowling through video conferencing on the occasion.

The delegation, led by North Shore-LIJ senior vice-president Catherine Galla, said it would cooperate with the State Government in upgrading emergency medical centres, training of doctors, nursing staff and faculty, research programme, establishment of research hospitals and telemedicine.

North Shore-LIJ -- one of the largest health care systems in the U.S. -- serves Long Island, Queens and Staten Island and comprises 15 hospitals, including three world-class tertiary hospitals, hospice and home care services. It also runs a major medical research institute and offers many other health-related facilities.

During her hour-long interaction with the delegation, Ms. Raje said North Shore-LIJ was rendering impressive services in the U.S. and its diversification in Rajasthan was a sequel to the conclave of the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA) in New York last July.

The delegation apprised Ms. Raje of their impressions during a visit to Sawai Man Singh Hospital and Sir Padampat Children's Hospital here earlier in the day.
