Meet on victimology
Victimologists (those who scientifically study the victims of crime) should enter into the minds and hearts of people. Until that was done, they would have almost no effect on the people's behaviour.
This was a point stressed by John P.J. Dussich, president of the World Society of Victimology, at the second international conference of the Indian Society of Victimology, which commenced on Thursday.
He drove the message home quoting his experience at the Chennai airport.
When he arrived, the immigration official asked him thrice to explain the word "Victimology." The official did not have a clue about, what Prof. Dussich was in Chennai to do. Even after he explained in detail that he was in Chennai to attend a conference on victimology, the official was still "appeared reluctant to stamp my passport, but due to the weight of many people behind me pressing, he did stamp it," he said amidst laughter.
