Honour for veteran nagaswaram artist

It was hide-and-seek game for the latest Padma Shri award winner Thiruveezhimizhalai S. Dakshinamoorthy Pillai. He got calls from far and near, but he was not able to answer the phone calls. The reason, he had not received the telegram from New Delhi announcing the award on time.

The Press got wind of it, but he was not able to confirm it. After two days, he got the telegram from the Union Government confirming the award. He was one of the popular Thiruveezhimizhalai brothers duo in nagaswaram.

S. Dakshinamoorthy Pillai has given more than 5,000 performances and has got Kalaimamani from the State Government in 1979 and various awards from different organisations. He was the disciple of Kanchi Nayaina Pillai and Kalayana Sundaram Pillai. He has toured Russia, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. When asked his response he said, "I thank the Almighty and both the Centre and State Government for the recognition".
