Former DGP passes away

CHENNAI : Former Director-General of Police Pon Paramaguru (83) passed away on Thursday. He retired in 1984 and had served in various capacities for 24 years in the State.

Recipient of several awards and medals for his meritorious services, Mr. Paramaguru had also authored about 50 books. He was honoured with the title "Illayika Mamani".

He is survived by his wife Kamala Paramaguru, two sons Ponram and Muthukumar, two daughters Kalamathi and Pon Meena. The cremation will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Besant Nagar crematorium, according to the family members.

In a condolence message, Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary Su Thirunnavukkarasar expressed shock over the demise of Mr Paramaguru and condoled the death. He was an able administrator and had introduced several reforms during his tenure as a police officer in the State, Mr. Thirunnavukkarasar added.
