Why nominations were rejected
Staff Reporter
Chennai
: The nominations of 31 candidates for the local body polls were rejected as they did not follow Election Rules, a release from the Chennai Corporation said.
The DMDK had charged that some of its nominations were rejected without valid reason. The Corporation release has listed the reasons for rejection. A person who nominates a candidate must not nominate another for the same ward under Election Rule 27 (6). This was not followed in the DMDK nominations for wards 61, 95 and 109. Rule 24 (4) stipulating that the name of the candidate and the person who proposes the candidate must appear in the electoral rolls was not followed in the case of nominations in wards 86, 109, 127, 130, 131, 135, 138, 140 and 141. Rule 24 (3), which says caste certificate of candidate should be produced for a reserved ward, was not followed in ward 69 and Rule 27 (3) related to authenticity of signature was not followed in nominations for ward 139.
