`Acting is therapeutic'

Staff Reporter

`I do acting and earn a little, just enough to buy my shaving cream'

HYDERABAD: The current crop of Hollywood fans might not recognise him immediately. His recent roles have been more of bit parts, like that of the doctor who tries to rescue Superman in `Superman Returns'. But then, for Lee James, it hardly matters.

"I do acting and earn a little, just enough to buy my shaving cream," he says, going on to add that in `Superman Returns,' "You will miss me unless you watch carefully."

"I don't have a separate life as an actor or as a spiritualist. It is all one life. Acting is more of a therapeutic activity for me, and I use the therapeutic aspects of theatre to help others," says James, who is in town to participate in the Prajapita Brahmakumaris' International Youth Retreat at Shanti Sarovar, Gachibowli this weekend.

"India is going through a huge transformation process, a renaissance in fact and its youth are under pressure. So it's important to support them and give them proper guidance on how to use their potential using different methods including concentration training," he explains his purpose. The actor-counsellor-management trainee-psychologist had already visited a few IT companies in the city.

9/11 attack

James also explained how his therapeutic theatre was helping relatives of those who had lost their lives in the September 11 WTC attack. "We asked them to play their relatives who had died, to visualise the thoughts in the last two minutes of their lives and to enact them. That had a huge cleansing effect," he said.
