Water to be supplied in tankers

KOCHI : Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma said on Thursday that the Government sanctioned Rs.50 lakh for providing drinking water to people affected by the discolouration of Periyar waters. He said that water would be supplied in tanker lorries in the affected areas. Mr. Sarma said residents of 15 panchayats would receive drinking water in tanker lorries. The Minister criticised the officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board for not giving prior information about the desilting process in Kallarkutty dam. Staff Reporter

Anniversary fete

KOCHI : The Base Victualling Yard, Kochi, celebrated its 54th anniversary on Wednesday.

In keeping with its motto `Provide the best and inspire the rest', this yard provides quality rations, clothing and mess trap items to all units of the Southern Naval Command, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force and NCC. Study in the U.S.

KOCHI : Representatives of some of the American universities will interact with students who wish to pursue academic programmes in the U.S. here on February 11. Indian revises fares

KOCHI: Indian has revised the unchecked fares (X class) for flights on Kochi-Kozhikode; Kochi-Chennai and Kochi-Mumbai routes. They will be Rs.1,575 up to Kozhikode and Rs.1,975 for Chennai and Mumbai from Kochi. These special fares were implemented from February 8 and will run up to September 9 this year. — Staff Reporter

Training

KOCHI: A five-day training programme on dementia care for managers of geriatric care institutions will be held at Ashirbhavan, Kacheripady, from Friday to Tuesday. The orientation training by National Institute of Social Defence (Old Age Care Division), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with the Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Society of India, will deal in detail not just about care giving to people with dementia but also about how to mobilise the community support for dementia care and to manage the distress of the care givers. Veena Chhottary, Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, will inaugurate the programme at 2.30 p.m. — Staff Reporter
