Kochi : A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday dismissed a batch of writ petitions challenging the change in the alignment of the road connectivity to the proposed Vallarpadom Transhipment Container Terminal. The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice M.N. Krishnan said that considering the fact that majority of persons had not objected to the change in the alignment, the mere fact that the environment impact assessment was not conducted for a small deviation of 600 m shall not affect the road connectivity to the Vallarpadom project. The court observed that there was substantial compliance with the procedural requirement of the environme- ntal assessment. According to the petitioners, the road project passed through the thickly populated areas such as Kalamassery, Cheranelloor and a group of islands such as Kothad, Mulampally and Mulavukad. The petitioner alleged that there was violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone notifications. The CPT and NH authorities said a small change had been made at the stretch near Eloor and Cheranelloor to avoid taking over two temples.
