THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If the managements of self-financing professional colleges indulge in profiteering and corruption, as they did under the United Democratic Front (UDF) Government, they will have to face the consequences of their actions, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Thursday. Inaugurating a seminar on "The self-financing colleges Act and the judiciary," organised by the Kerala Vidyabhyasa Samithi, he said those who argued that the present Government introduced the Act in a hurry sided with profiteering and corruption. He said the Act was not anti-minority, but only sought to control the granting of status of minority institutions to colleges. The UDF was now celebrating the High Court verdict on the Act. "What is it that they are against? Are they against granting reservation to the poor and the backward? Are they against allowing meritorious students to study by paying Government fee? They should make this clear." Samithi chairman Ninan Koshy presided. C.P. Narayanan, Planning Board member, and Legislature Secretary N.K. Jayakumar participated.
