Awareness campaign on plastics ban

Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation Council, on Thursday, approved a package of recommendations to enforce the ban on plastic containers and packing materials of thickness below 50 microns.

An awareness campaign targeted at different sections of the city populace will form the crux of the enforcement programme. Trade licence for plastic goods will carry the micron specification.

The Corporation will purchase micrometers to measure the thickness of plastic material. The civic body decided to seek legal advice on seizure of banned plastic goods and action against traders found stocking the material.
