Contrived humour

Inspector Garud

Can accepting bribes be made to look like a heroic act? It seems anything is possible in films.

Director Johny Antony and scriptwriter duo Siby Thomas-Udaya Krishna attempt to do just this through the seemingly comic antics of the lead actor (Dileep) in their latest venture, `Inspector Garud.'

However, the humour seems to be nothing but contrived.

Madhavankutty, nicknamed Inspector Garud, is a Circle Inspector who sees nothing wrong in accepting bribes. His excuse for doing so is the fact that he had to pay Rs.15 lakh to secure his job.

Negative characters

In several recent Malayalam films, the scriptwriters have portrayed the negative characters as those hailing from other States. This film too follows suit. The Tamil-speaking Chettiar (Vijayaraghavan) and the Hindi-speaking Gupta are partners in crime — they smuggle arms. Garud accepts a huge sum for aiding them in their nefarious activities.

Meanwhile, a Sub-Collector (Kavya Madhavan) learns about Garud's misdeeds.

Revenge

She takes action against him for misusing his official position as well as for abusing her. Garud feels slighted and decides to make life miserable for her.

How Garud goes about wreaking havoc forms the rest of the story. The cast includes Innocent, Salim Kumar, Lalu Alex.

Vayalar Sarathchandra Varma's lyrics have been set to tune by Alex Paul.

P. Sukumar cranks the camera. `Inspector Garud' has been produced by Milan Jaleel.
