NEW DELHI
: Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on Friday emphasised the need for a common value to combat terrorism or extremism of any sort and combat ravages of poverty, famine, disease and under-development.
Inaugurating the newly constructed building of the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and the 9th Asian Security Conference here, Mr. Shekhawat said the principal challenges before the mankind were to see how violence could be minimised and how the world could be made more secure for human progress.
Ethos of global values
The Vice-President said the focus of globalisation today should not be merely on trade and business; it ought to aim at building an ethos of global values, of shared conviction and belief in values of democracy, liberty, religious tolerance and human rights and in acceptance of the principles and values of plurality.
