Government accused of keeping its decision in abeyance because of pressure

MARCHING AHEAD: Members of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti led by its convener D.G. Sagar taking out a procession in Gulbarga on Friday urging the Government to provide egg along with midday meals to schoolchildren.

GULBARGA: Members of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Sagar faction) on Friday demanded that the State Government add egg to mid-day meals being given to schoolchildren.

The members led by State convener of the samiti D.G. Sagar, who took out a procession here and staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office, accused the Government of keeping the decision on supplying egg in abeyance because of pressure from castiest and communal elements.

Memorandum

In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, the members said such elements led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sangh Pariwar and a few religious maths pressured the Government to withhold its decision.

They said nobody had the right to decide on what kind of food should be taken by children and religious leaders should not meddle in the affairs of the Government and enforce their views and belief on the people.

Choice

The choice of egg or other nutritious food should be left to schoolchildren, the members added.

Raichur Staff Correspondent reports: Members of the district unit of the DSS staged a dharna here urging the Government provide egg instead of milk along with midday meals to schoolchildren.

They submitted a memorandum to the district administration urging the Chief Minister not to withdraw the Government's proposal to provide egg to schoolchildren.

The members urged the religious leaders and various maths not to politicise the matter.
