KOCHI: Australia is keen on setting up joint venture projects in India. Australian High Commissioner to India John MacCarthy said his country was interested in launching research and development projects in different fields. The areas of cooperation could include education, fisheries and food processing, he said at an interactive meeting organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Friday. Mr. McCarthy said an Australian company was involved in the development projects at Vallarpadam. Negotiations were going on for import of LNG from Australia for the LNG project in Kochi. Australia was rich in mineral wealth and Indian companies could explore opportunities in mining there, he said. Answering a question, he said the wheat production in Australia suffered a setback owing to drought and it had affected the export of wheat to various countries, including India. He expressed hope that the production would be better next year. Earlier, Mr. McCarthy held consultations with representatives of trade and industry. President of the Chamber K.Retnan and others were present.
