KOCHI: Campus placements at the School of Communications and Management Studies (SCMS) here have picked up this year with 240 students getting offers in a short span of two weeks. Some students have more than five job offers. There is also a substantial increase in the salary packages being offered this year. It has touched a high of Rs.4.85 lakh a year. The average salary offered so far this year is Rs.3.75 lakh as against Rs.3.10 lakh last year. According to Pramod P. Thevannoor, director in charge of placements, "there is an overwhelming response from business corporations this year. They are extremely happy with the ambience and world-class facilities offered on the campus and the high calibre of the students.'' A majority of the recruiting companies that visited SCMS belonged to the financial services sector and the rest belonged to Information Technology, Consultancy, Retailing, Tele Services, Health Science, Manufacturing, etc. ICICI Bank, ICICI Lombard, HDFC Bank, IDBI Bank, SBI Life Insurance, Centurion Bank, Ernst & Young, Reliance Life Insurance, Kotak Bank, Kotak Securities, Tata Teleservices, India Bulls, South Indian Bank, RPG Spencer, Motilal Oswal, Berger Paints, IBS , RK Swamy BBDO, Al-Saleh Enterprises LLC, Muscat, etc., are some of the recruiters who selected students from SCMS recently. G.P.C. Nayar, chairman of the SCMS group, told The Hindu here on Wednesday that postgraduate diploma courses in international business, insurance development, retailing and merchandise management would be introduced here shortly. He recalled that SCMS was the first business school to get ISO certification for quality management teaching system in this region.
