BANGALORE: The managements of private ayurveda colleges have agreed to set apart 30 per cent of seats for students admitted to ayurveda, unani, yoga and homoeopathy courses for 2007-08 under the government quota. In the case of government aided colleges 80 per cent of the seats will come under the government quota. Medical Education Minister V.S. Acharya told presspersons here on Thursday that the annual fee for the courses would be the same as that of last year. It would be Rs. 30,390 in private colleges, Rs. 11,590 in government aided colleges and Rs. 8,590 in government colleges, Dr. Acharya said. The Government will hold another meeting with the managements of private nursing colleges to decide on seat sharing and fee structure for nursing and paramedical courses. Dr. Acharya said the seat sharing and fee structure agreement reached between the Government and representatives of the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) would be applicable only for 2007-08. COMED-K wanted the Government to keep the agreement in place in 2008-09 and 2009-10 also. Cabinet approval was required for the purpose, Dr. Acharya said. The Supreme Court had upheld the seat sharing and fee structure agreement reached with COMED-K, he said.
