`My Smart Baby' programme

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala recently spent time watching a video presentation of a programme called `My Smart Baby', that seeks to train mothers in how to bring out what its creators call `the untapped genius' in children less than a year old.

Mothers in the programme used flashcards, among other techniques, to make the babies from 3 months to 48 months, learn words and count numbers well before they started formal schooling.

Interesting incident

Responding to the presentation, the Governor recalled an interesting incident he witnessed in the U.S. 30 years ago.

He had visited a camp organised for Sikhs settled in the U.S. where he saw a youth reciting holy hymns before a dozen babies. The young trainer had said the kids would absorb what they heard and would be able to recite them later. The governor felt the `My Smart Baby' programme was something similar. The programme is offered by SuperKidz, a multinational kids education organisation, headquartered at Chennai.

Training mothers

SuperKidz CEO K. Swaminathan said: "Babies possess miraculous capabilities and the programme trains mothers on activating the photographic memory and computing abilities they are born with. Now it has been launched in the DVD format to help mothers learn the tools and techniques at their pace and convenience."
