Municipal downs Bhagwan

NEW DELHI: Municipal College, Rourkela pipped Bhagwan Mahaveer College, Bangalore 2-1 in the SAIL 14th Nehru Champion college hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Friday. Binod Kumar Ekka and Sunil Kujur found the target for the Rourkela team while Vineeth Michael reduced the margin for Bhagwan Mahaveer.

In another match, Pachaiyappa College, Chennai recorded a 3-1 victory over Gurukul Kangri College, Haridwar after leading 2-0 at halftime. David Arockyaraj, M. Iyappan and Philip Martin scored the goals for the Chennai team. Mohammed Rehan Khan scored the only goal for Gurukul Kangri.

Government Mahindra College, Patiala recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory over Surana College, Bangalore after having trailed 0-1 at halftime. Sunder Singh (2), Sandeep Singh, Ajay Kumar and Sarvjit Singh scored the goals for the winners after Prithvi had put the Bangalore team ahead in the 21st minute. — Special Correspondent
