423 events, 3043 medals at stake

GUWAHATI: A total of 3043 medals, including 958 gold, 958 silver and 1127 bronze, will be awarded to the first three place winners of the 423 events at the 33rd National Games, which will see competitions in 32 disciplines.

Like in the previous Games, the most number of medals will be awarded in aquatics (174 in swimming, 18 in diving and 72 in waterpolo for a grand total of 264 medals), followed by fencing (240).

The medal count for some of the other disciplines is as follows: archery (66), athletics (174), badminton (64), basketball (72), boxing (96), cycling (138), equestrian (75), football (120), gymnastics (99), handball (96), hockey (96). A total of 233 events are to be held in the men's section and 187 in the women's section, while there will be three mixed doubles events at the 10-day Games. — Special Correspondent & Sports Reporter
