GUWAHATI: In a bid to check doping, the Games Technical Conduct Committee, working under the direct supervision of the Indian Olympic Association, has made arrangements for the collection of 600 urine samples from among the participants of the 33rd National Games. Talking to The Hindu here on Thursday, the IOA Secretary-General Randhir Singh said of these 600 samples, 250 would be sent to the WADA laboratory in Bangkok for tests. The rest of the samples collected would be tested at the SAI laboratory in New Delhi. "We are totally against athletes using unfair methods and practices to gain advantage over their rivals and hence have decided to send random samples to Bangkok for testing," Randhir Singh said. The NGOC too has made elaborate arrangements to see that the participating athletes, team officials and technical officials are given the best of treatment.
Dispensary
The Medical Committee, according to its convener, J.C. Goswami, will be running a dispensary each at the 20 venues. Besides, a polyclinic, boasting state-of-the-art facilities, has already started functioning at the Games Village. "We are in full readiness and around 400 personnel drawn from the State Health Department will be working round the clock through the next 10-12 days to see to it that any health complaint is attended to immediately," Goswami said. Meanwhile, it was also confirmed that the NGOC has insured all the Games venues, participating athletes, team and technical officials for a whopping Rs. 279 crores, despite the ULFA calling off its boycott of the Games.
