KOCHI: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Friday denied reports that the Dubai-based Technology and Media Free Zone (TECOM) has backed out from the Smart City project. Speaking to presspersons after presenting the V.K. Rajan Award to former Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer here, Mr. Achuthanandan said the Government-level talks with TECOM officials would resume within two weeks. Top officials of TECOM, which runs the Dubai Internet City, had held discussions on the Smart City project with the Chief Minister in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. Mr. Achuthanandan said certain points pertaining to the proposed agreement between the Government and the Dubai-based company remained to be finalised. He said information technology should not be under monopoly. The land to be utilised for the project should get proper price, the Chief Minister pointed out. The Chief Minister said his Government was keen on helping the Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) to tide over the crisis.
