Thiruvananthapuram : The State Government has decided to go in for a comprehensive revision of the list of families below poverty line (BPL) and complete the process by March 31. Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty said that all eligible families that had been omitted in the earlier list would be included during the evaluation of the lists. The Cabinet had earlier taken a decision to revise the list and the mechanism for this was discussed at a meeting convened by the Minister. According to an official statement from the Minister's office, the meeting decided to utilise the services of the employees in the panchayat and rural development departments in addition to Kudumbasree and Ayalkootams.
Training
The Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) would provide the necessary training to the surveyors. The BPL list would be published at the panchayat ward level under the auspices of a committee headed by the respective ward member and comprising official and non-official members. The ward committee would examine all complaints relating to the list. The ration card number should be included in the survey records, the statement said.
Review
The panchayat committee would subject the list to a review and make the necessary changes if required. After this, the grama sabhas would be specially convened to approve the final list, the statement said. The survey and evaluation would be completed in a time-bound manner by March 31. The department has given instructions to the officials to take special care in ensuring the enlistment of families belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and fishermen community. The Government would issue separate orders for a comprehensive family survey in the municipalities taking into consideration the difficulties in completing the comprehensive revision of BPL lists owing to lack of machinery, the statement said.
