CPI(M) alleges smear campaign

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Communist Party of India(Marxist) (CPI-M) State secretariat has alleged that a concerted attempt is being made by certain sections to carry out a smear campaign against the party and its leaders.

The allegations against Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan were part of such a campaign.

Cheriyath Thazhe Balakrishnan of Thiruvangode, Thalassery, had come out with evidence to prove that it was he who had offered the `Poomoodal' puja at the Kadampuzha temple on his and his son Bijoy's behalf, but the attempt of the media was to make it appear that the puja was conducted for Mr. Balakrishnan, the CPI(M) leadership said in a statement here on Friday.

There could be similar attempts to defame the party and its leaders and such attempts were being promoted by some anti-party forces, it said.

The CPI(M) was confident that the people would reject with contempt the attempts to defame the party with the help of the `media syndicate' and reactionary forces, the CPI(M) secretariat said in a statement issued here on Friday..
