Directive to Milma to resolve crisis

KOCHI: Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran said here on Friday that Milma had been directed to resolve the crisis in milk supply within two days. He was inaugurating the distribution of instruments for examining the purity of milk, to cooperative societies at a function organised by the district panchayat.

He said milk production in the State was lower than the national average. — Staff Reporter

Poabs Estate gets Sustainability Award

PALAKKAD: The Poabs Estate in Nelliampathy won the Sustainability Award 2007 from the Speciality Coffee Association of America for the "unique holistic self-sustainable closed eco-system with a focus on biodiversity that helps to set a new standard in the industry by adding five of the Millennium Development Goals.'' The award will be presented during the awards reception at the annual conference of the Association in Long Beach, California, U.S., on May 5, 2007. — Staff Reporter

Appointed

Thiruvananthapuram: N. Ramakanthan has been appointed director of the Kerala Institute of Local Administration. A professor with 22 years of service in various Government colleges in the State, he has been leading training programmes connected with decentralisation of power for the past 10 years. He has worked as Ernakulam district coordinator of the People's Plan movement, consultant of the Planning Board and state secretary of the AKGCT. — Special Correspondent

Spices park to come up in Kochi

Thiruvananthapuram: Kinfra, a State Government agency, is joining hands with the Spices Board of the Centre to set up a spices park in Idukki district. The memorandum of understanding for it will be signed at the Indian Cardamom Institute at Myladumpara in the presence of Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh on February 13. Industries Minister Elamaram Karim, Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan, Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy and Francis George, MP, will attend the function. — Special Correspondent

QSSS housing scheme

KOLLAM: The foundation stone for the housing scheme to be constructed by the Quilon Social Service Society (QSSS) in association with the State Government and the Catholic Relief Services at Devikulangara grama panchayat will be laid by Fisheries Minister S. Sarma at a function to be held at Devikulangara on February 10.

QSSS secretary Romance Antony said 29 houses for tsunami victims were being constructed under the programme. — Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: International president-elect of the Y's Men International V.S. Basheer will be given a reception by the District-V members of the Y' Men International on February 11.
