Telephone services affected

NEW DELHI: Telephone services to over 1,900 landline subscribers of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited in Paschim Vihar (Blocks A-1 to A-5 and BG-I) here have been affected due to cable theft in the area.

Though MTNL has started restoration work, it may take a week before normal services are restored.

Administrator convenes meeting

NEW DELHI: The Administrator of Delhi, A. R. Kidwai, on Thursday convened a high-level meeting at Raj Niwas to discuss preparations for the 150th anniversary of the First War of Independence. Among those present were Celebration Committee chairman Shashi Bhushan, Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri and Chief Secretary R. Narayanswami.

Mr. Bhushan requested the Administrator for restoration of the historic Khooni Darwaza to its original form and installation of appropriate plaques bearing a few lines about the history of the gate.

Municipal library branch inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Friday inaugurated the 29th branch of Hardayal Municipal Public Library in Pocket F of Mayur Vihar Phase II.

The Member of Parliament from East Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit, library honorary secretary Ashok Jain and senior municipal officials were among those present.

Award for Directorate of Education

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government's Directorate of Education has won two prestigious e-governance awards. The awards were presented to the Director of Education in Bhopal during the tenth National Conference of E-Government organised jointly by the Union Ministry of Information Technology and the Department of Administrative Reforms recently.

The awards and certificates were shown by the Directorate on Thursday to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Education Minister Arvinder Singh.

Spring carnival

NEW DELHI: A two-day Spring Carnival to be organised by the Northern Railway Women's Welfare Organisation will open at Baroda House lawns here on Saturday.

Aimed at raising funds for various welfare activities, the carnival will have several attractions for the visitors, including cultural programmes, photo exhibitions and film and dog shows. Joyrides, toy train and giant slide will be added attractions for children.
