Charged with accepting bribe The CBI had also booked the ACP under the Excise Act

NEW DELHI: Assistant Commissioner of Police Rakesh Bansal, who has been on the run in a corruption case in which he is charged with accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakhs through a sub-inspector, was refused anticipatory bail by a city court here on Friday.

ACP Rakesh Bansal, who was earlier posted with the Anti-Extortion and Robbery Cell of the Crime Branch of the Delhi police, had sought anticipatory bail through his counsel in the court of Additional Sessions Judge I. K. Kochhar on the ground that the complainant in the case had a criminal background. The Judge did not accept his plea.

Sub-Inspector

On January 31, Sub-Inspector Jagdish was arrested by the CBI while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakhs from the complainant. During interrogation, he allegedly told the CBI that he had accepted the bribe on behalf of ACP Bansal.

Documents

Subsequently the CBI had raided Bansal's house and office and recovered Rs. 2.25 lakhs in cash and documents relating to three flats here in Rohini, Dwarka and Gurgaon. Following alleged recovery of 40 liquor bottles, the CBI had also booked the ACP under the Excise Act.

Procedures

Meanwhile, the Delhi police have also initiated procedures to suspend the officer as he had not turned up before the agency to cooperate in investigations.
