Bell studying HAL facilities

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Global aviation firm Bell Helicopter Textron is evaluating the facilities at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) here for potential co-production of sub-assemblies for its Bell 407 light-single engine commercial helicopter.

The Texas-based company is one of the contenders to supply helicopters for the Army's requirement for 197 helicopters for which a tender had been floated. It has pitched its 407s for the purpose and is waiting for the Government's move to finalise the bids. Bell is competing with Eurocopter's 350b3 to replace Indian Army's ageing Cheetah fleet. It had offered its 407 helicopters and the technology transfer for Bell design to HAL for further joint production.

At the Aero India-2007 airshow, the company officials said Bell had signed a MoU with HAL to identify potential projects.
