NCC unit begins bike expedition

Team to spread awareness of eye donation, ophthalmic problems

CHENNAI : A team of students from D.G Vaishnav College has set off on a motorcycle expedition across Tamil Nadu.

The team consists of 14 NCC cadets and two visual communication students.

Minister for Electricity, Arcot N. Veerasami, flagged off the expedition on Friday. Commodore U.N. Chitnavis, VM, deputy director general, NCC directorate, principal S. Narasimhan and B. Srinivas, senior area manager, Hero Honda were present.

The team will cover Cuddalore, Tiruchi, Ramanathapuram, Nagercoil, Madurai, Palani, Coimbatore, Udhagamandalam, Tiruchenkodu, Salem, Dharmapuri and Vellore. They will be back on Chennai by February 24.

Lieutenant S. Santhosh Baboo is leading the team, while Lieutenant Colonel V. Alexchandran is accompanying them. The objective of the mission is to spread awareness about eye donation, squint eye, eye screening for school children and diabetic retinopathy.

Rotary Rajan Eye Bank, Rajan Eye Clinic and Airtel support the expedition.
