HYDERABAD: Pleasure for a youth leader's supporters, pain for commuters! The convoy of vehicles carrying supporters of newly-appointed State Youth Congress president T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu from the Begumpet airport to Gandhi Bhavan threw traffic movement out of gear for over an hour on Friday. A large number of his supporters gathered at the airport at 10 a.m. to accompany him to Gandhi Bhavan since he was arriving here for the first time after being conferred the party post. With a large number of vehicles carrying Babu's supporters entering the bustling Begumpet-Rasoolpura stretch, traffic flow came to a grinding halt. "Interruption in traffic flow even for an extra minute results in jam on this stretch. The long stream of vehicles created chaos on roads till Wesley College and Greenlands," traffic police officials said. Surprised over the sudden jam, some two-wheelers riders going from Secunderabad to Begumpet started coming in reverse direction. This only increased confusion of the commuters and roads connected to Sindhi colony and the Ministers' road too got packed. Caught amidst a sea of vehicles, others had to wait helplessly under the scorching sun cursing their fate. Soon, the congestion spread towards the Greenlands that had been witnessing traffic snarls all through the day due to the ongoing construction of fly-overs. For some time, vehicle movement had to be completely stopped on all connected roads, to clear the youth leader's caravan. It took nearly two hours for the police to restore normal traffic movement. Begumpet ACP William Carey said the Congress party workers did not take any permission for taking out the procession. A case under the City Police Act was registered against them.
