HYDERABAD: With all land acquisitions completed, the four flyovers coming up at Punjagutta, Greenlands, Nalgonda crossroads and Chandrayanagutta are in a "very advanced stage of construction," according to MCH officials. They told Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy and Deputy Mayor G. Subash Chanderji during an inspection on Friday that acquiring properties, shifting service lines like water and sewerage underground and the steep curvature for Punjagutta flyover delayed the works.
Four-month delay
The MCH had earlier slated the inauguration of the four flyovers on February. Now there could be a four-month delay in completing all works. Additional Commissioner (Traffic & Transportation) N.V.S. Reddy told presspersons that the Chandrayanagutta and Nalgonda crossroads flyovers would be completed by April. The other two would be `fully ready' in July with their `first phase' structures to be operational by April-May. Punjagutta and Greenlands flyovers will be of two lanes and uni-directional. The other two are of four lanes with a central divider separating both grades of traffic and also crash barriers on the sides with footpaths. Nalgonda crossroads flyover with a `trumpet' model will have traffic coming from Saidabad getting on to it to go towards Dilsukhnagar instead of taking right turn at the intersection. Mr. Reddy said the flyovers were aesthetically designed to carry maximum traffic load, and stringent quality norms were being followed. Four separate technical consultants were appointed for each flyover to monitor quality.
Metro rail works
"Punjagutta flyover construction has been a major challenge since such work was being done in South India for the first time. Having successfully negotiated the curve, we are confident of taking up metro rail constructionon similar lines," he said.
