HYDERABAD: A 10th class student attempted suicide on her school premises at Uppal on Friday, alleging that her teachers' `humiliating' questions about her sports trip to Delhi forced her to take the extreme step. Shiva Parvathi, 15, was shifted to Gandhi Hospital. Doctors said she was out of danger. The Uppal police, who earlier registered a criminal case against three teachers, booked a case under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide). A resident of Bapuji Colony in Nacharam, the girl was studying in Zilla Parishad High School, Uppal. She was a cricket player and used to attend various tournaments. School physical education teacher Mallikarjun appointed special coach Srinivas to train her.
Trip to Delhi
In December last, the girl and the coach went to Delhi for a cricket tournament, stayed there for some 20 days and returned to the city. "The girl approached us four days ago, alleging that her school teachers humiliated her by asking inquisitive questions about her trip to Delhi with Srinivas," Uppal Inspector Muthyam Reddy said on Friday. A criminal case was registered against three teachers Sandhya, Kavitha and Prabhakar and a vidya volunteer Alivelu. While the police recorded statements of the accused teachers and the inquiry was on, Deputy Educational Officer of Ranga Reddy district came to the school to conduct a departmental inquiry on Friday. Even as the inquiry was on, the girl consumed some insecticide and collapsed on the ground. Later, speaking to the police from the hospital bed, the girl said the Government should transfer the accused teachers. The Government has suspended Mr. Mallikarjun for appointing Mr. Srinivas without the knowledge of the higher-ups.
