KOCHI: The State Government is committed to expediting works related to the International Container Transshipment Terminal on the Vallarpadam island on a war footing, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Friday. He was speaking after inaugurating works on the road and rail links, estimated at Rs. 802 crore, for the proposed terminal at a function on Willingdon Island. Union Minister for Shipping T.R. Baalu; Chandran Pillai and Sebastian Paul, MPs; K.V. Thomas, K. Babu, M.K. Purushothaman, V.K. Ebrahim Kunju and A.M. Yusuf, MLAs; Mayor Mercy Williams; district panchayat president P.S. Shyla; Union Secretary for Shipping A.K. Mohapatra; Chairman of Cochin Port Trust N. Ramachandran and District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish were present. The Chief Minister said the metro rail project had not been abandoned. Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma said the Government was committed to implementing the metro rail project.
