New garbage contracts from March 1

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: After a delay of almost two years, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) new garbage contracts will come into force from March 1.

Work orders for the new tenders will be issued in the third week of February after the shortlisted contractors complete all formalities pertaining to covering their workers under the Provident Fund (PF) and Employees' State Insurance (ESI) schemes.

Though the BBMP Commissioner K. Jairaj had earlier said the new mechanised cleaning system would start from February 1, it has now been postponed to March 1.

This time, the civic body has made it mandatory for contractors to ensure that the workers employed by them get all benefits including PF and ESI facilities.

On Friday, the Commissioner, directed the contractors to complete the registration process with the PF office on February 14 and 15 and with ESI on February 19 and obtain a licence.
