High Court pulls up BDA

Staff Reporter

Why was change in land use permitted selectively, judge asks BDA officials

  • BDA, BBMP officials say residents had illegally changed the land use
  • Hearing in the case adjourned to February 26

BANGALORE : The Karnataka High Court on Thursday took to task the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for unplanned and unchecked growth of the city and asked it how it could selectively permit conversion of residential premises to commercial purposes in a residential locality.

The court said the BDA "were the masters of Sadashivanagar" but the nature of the locality had been changed because of large-scale conversion of land use from residential to commercial. The court was dealing with scores of petitions against the notices by Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) asking them to close down as they had violated the change in land use.

When the matter came up, the BDA and the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contended that the residents had illegally changed the land use.
