Eight CISF personnel suspended

NEW DELHI: Eight Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have been suspended pending an inquiry into a security breach at Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Wednesday. A young man had managed to sneak into the airport breaking the first security cordon.

A CISF spokesperson said on Friday that the security personnel were suspended to ensure that they did not influence the inquiry.

Schoolteacher and clerk arrested

NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old schoolteacher and a clerk have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly kidnapping three minor girls.

According to the police, Rajinder, a teacher with Government Boys' Senior Secondary School at Dhaka Dhirpur, and Nihal Singh, an upper division clerk, allegedly dragged the three girls into their car at Dilshad Colony on Thursday evening. When the girls raised an alarm, an auto-rickshaw driver, Shahid, followed the car. The duo, who were allegedly drunk, lost control and the car hit the central verge in Nand Nagri. Shahid overpowered the two with the help of passers-by and handed them over to the police.

A case of kidnapping has been registered against the two at the Seemapuri police station.

Teacher held on molestation charge

NEW DELHI: A 57-year-old science teacher has been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly molesting girl students.

According to the police, Chanderbal Tomar, a teacher with Nehru Memorial Middle School, was arrested at Mansarovar Park on Friday after some complaints of molestation were received against him. About a dozen girls have complained against him, the police said.

Betting racket busted, two held

NEW DELHI: Amid the latest controversy over a star West Indian cricketer's links with an alleged bookie, Delhi Police have cracked a betting racket here and arrested two persons.

The racket, operating in an East Delhi locality, was unearthed on Thursday when betting was in progress on the India- Sri Lanka one day international match being played in Kolkata, police said.

The arrested bookies have been identified as Keher Singh and Anil Kumar, police said.

Malaysian news agency opens bureau

NEW DELHI : Malaysian national news agency Bernama has opened its first news bureau in India. At a function on Friday, Malaysian Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin announced the opening of the office in Delhi.

Bernama's bureau reports from India will be in English and cover all platforms of news. It also plans to open more bureaus.

According to its Editor-in-Chief Azman Ujang, the agency hopes its bureau in Delhi would enable the news agency to feel the pulse of India.
