A historic step for the betterment of Delhiites: Ram Babu Sharma

NEW DELHI: Seeking to take credit for the passage of the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee convened its Executive Committee meeting on Friday where PCC president Ram Babu Sharma termed the Master Plan as a "historic step for the betterment of Delhiites'' and thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Urban Development Minister S.Jaipal Reddy among others for its finalisation.

Mr. Sharma tabled a resolution to this effect and it was seconded by the Member of Parliament from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, and supported by MLA Anil Bhardwaj.

He also lauded the regularisation of 1,500 unauthorised colonies by the "Congress-led Central Government'' and said this would benefit over 35 lakh people who reside in them.

The executive also thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for providing Delhi with the new Master Plan and claimed that 95 per cent of the people affected by sealing and demolition had been given relief through the vision document.

The efforts of Mr. Sharma in ensuring that the voice of the people was heard during the preparation of the final plan documents were also lauded by the Executive Committee.

Meanwhile Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said on Friday the plan would provide relief to 95 per cent of the traders and others. He complimented the Government for bringing out a balanced document that made a difference between a populist approach and one that would become popular with the masses.

The previous Bharatiya Janata Party governments at the Centre and in Delhi had failed to draw up a master plan for the Capital and address the manifold problems of the citizens, Mr. Singhvi alleged.
