Thiruvananthapuram: The healing powers of music are well known. Music can soothe troubled minds, give good sleep, help one get over feelings of depression and also take one to heights of ecstasy.

The efficacy of music therapy was demonstrated at a function held at the Mental Health Centre (MHC) here on Friday when patients were treated to an hour of soul-filling music.

Love of music

For film director Rajasenan, who is known for his penchant for singing, entertaining and interacting with the patients was an enriching experience.

Mr. Rajasenan has been hosting a popular music programme `Sangeetha Sallapam' on Doordarshan for a while now.

And it was on the initiative of a staff member at the MHC that he and the producer of the programme, Ananda Varma, turned up at the hospital to entertain the patients.

Several evergreen melodies in Malayalam were rendered, much to the delight of the audience who listened in rapt attention.

Mr. Rajasenan was later taken around the hospital, including the wards, by the hospital authorities.
