Thiruvananthapuram: The Hotel and Restaurant Owners' Association will reduce the price of meals by Re.1 to support the efforts of the district administration to check the rise in prices of essential commodities. The association gave its promise at a meeting convened on Friday by District Collector N. Ayyappan on a directive from the Chief Minister to decide on the emergency measures to be adopted to hold down the price line. At a time when electricity, water charges and the prices of essential commodities had gone up, it was difficult to slash prices, the association had said. However, it later agreed to the District Collector's request that the price of meals be reduced by Re.1 for the sake of the common man. The Collector directed that hotels display boards giving directions to the public against wastage of food, water and electricity. He assured the hoteliers that all administrative help and support would be provided to them for the smooth functioning of the hotel industry. He also said that steps would be taken to make available vegetables and provisions required by hotels through the Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco). The Collector demanded at the meeting that all hotels strictly display the price chart. Only the price shown in the chart may be charged from consumers. The consumers should ensure that the billed price was the same as the one on the price chart, he said.
