Bangalore: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday said the State Government would organise the birth centenary celebrations of the former Chief Minister Kengal Hanumanthaiya on a grand scale next year. Addressing a gathering near the statue of Hanumanthaiya on the grounds of the Vidhana Soudha after paying his respects to the late leader on the occasion of his 99th birth anniversary, Mr. Kumaraswamy said he would direct the Department of Kannada and Culture to celebrate the former Chief Minister's centenary in a befitting manner. The Chief Minister also garlanded a portrait of Hanumanthaiya. The Ministers R. Ashok and Ramachandra Gowda and Thimmaiah and Vijayalakshmi Thimmaiah, son-in-law and daughter of Hanumanthaiya paid floral tributes to the late leader. The Chief Minister later told presspersons that the Government would take a decision on the election of the Legislative Council Chairman at a suitable time. He criticised the Congress for what he termed its partisan approach to the election. People knew what that party had done when it was in power, he said.
