YSR for affordable medicare

Wants benefits of quality healthcare to reach the poor

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has called for a pro-poor medicare system, as not many people are able to afford the rising costs of medicare.

Delivering the keynote address through a videoconference to the 53rd annual meet of the Indian Association of Cardio-Vascular-Thoracic surgeons being held at Jaipur from his camp office here on Friday, Dr. Reddy said though the quality of healthcare had improved tremendously, the poor had been deprived of the benefits.

This experience had forced the Government to give Rs. 110 crores to 38,001 families falling under Below Poverty Line (BPL) for undergoing major surgical interventions .
