CHENNAI: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has condoled the death of S. Rangarajan, Chairman of Kasturi and Sons Limited, proprietors of The Hindu Group of Publications. In a message to Mrs. Shanta Rangarajan, Mr. Kalam said: "I am saddened to learn about the passing away of your husband Shri S. Rangarajan. "Shri Rangarajan was a well-known media personality with unique and high interests in media and sports. He indeed represented the great traditions of The Hindu . Shri Rangarajan has left his mark on this media organisation. "Kindly accept my condolences and convey them to the rest of the members of your family. I pray to the Almighty to give you and the other members of your family the strength to bear this irreparable loss." Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said the death of Mr. Rangarajan was a loss not only to the newspaper world but also to the country, which had lost a forerunner among newspaper owners. Consul-General of the United States of America David T. Hopper described Mr. Rangarajan as an outstanding newsman and said he was instrumental in making The Hindu the world-class newspaper that it was today. India had lost one of its great sons, he said. In a condolence message, the Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, and his wife said they had the greatest admiration and regard for Mr. Rangarajan. Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam said the contribution of Mr. Rangarajan to the nation through The Hindu Group of Publications was remarkable and noteworthy.
