KOTTAYAM : Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu has said that a central maritime university will be set up in Chennai, with campuses at Kolkata, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam. A Bill in this regard will be introduced in the coming session of Parliament, he said. Mr. Baalu was speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Development of Major Ports at Kumarakom on Saturday. The Minister stressed the need for Indian ports to gear up to meet the estimated requirement of 1.5 billion tonnes capacity by 2011-12. The ports were in the process of finalising an action plan for the next seven years.
