Support for Statewide bandh

BELLARY: Activists of pro-Kannada organisations in Bellary on Saturday continued their protest against the verdict of the Cauvery tribunal through separate dharnas and demonstartions.

Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged a silent dharna, covering their mouth with a black band in front of the residence of G. Karunakar Reddy, MP, urging him to pressure the Union Government and ensure that justice was meted out to the Karnataka. Activists under the banner of the Kannada Kranti Dal and Kannada Kiran Geleyara Balaga staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post office here.

Movement of traffic was disrupted between Kappagal and Bellary when people of Sangankal village staged a "rasta roko" against the tribunal's award.

Meanwhile, various associations, including the district unit of Karnataka State Government Employees' Association extended their support to the Statewide bandh on Monday.

At a meeting convened by the district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, representatives of various pro-Kannada organisations decided to observe a peaceful but total bandh.

Representatives of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Kannada Kranti Dal, Kannada Chaitanya Vedike, Kannada Kiran Geleyara Balaga, Kannada Kriya Samiti, Karnataka Yuva Pade, Hotel Owners' Association, Mayur Kala Sangha, Abhinaya Kala Sangha, Kannadabhimanigala Sangha, Karunada Sene, Dr. Rajkumar Abhimanigala Sangha, Basaveshwar Yuva Kala Sangha, Railway Kriya Samiti, Maxicab Owners' Association, participated in the meeting.
